Football:
Israel is certainly
not known for its sporting achievements. |
| The national football
team has come close to qualifying for several major
tournaments, but has always fallen at the last hurdle. In
the recent play-off game for The European Championship,
Israel lost 0-5 at home to Denmark. Locally, there is a
vibrant league, which is highly competitive year after year,
with no single team dominating. Jerusalem has a brand new
stadium which seats 21,000 spectators. The first Jerusalem
club, Beitar
Jerusalem has won the Israeli championship on several
occasions. The second team, Hapoel Jerusalem has been
struggling in recent years and is in danger of dropping
leagues at the end of the present season. Here are some links

In
European terms, Israel is certainly a force to be |
| reckoned
with. The National
team rarely misses the European Finals. At the team level,
Israel has one team that has dominated local league for the
past 20 years. Maccabi Tel-Aviv represents Israel year after
in the European League, and even won the trophy twice in
1977and 1980. Hapoel
Jerusalem is the country's second ranked team, and plays
in the local Malcha stadium.
Running : Israel has plenty
of other sports enthusiasts. Running is a very popular
pastime. Jerusalem
has its own running club containing details of upcoming
competitions.
